An early and slightly chilly start at Mentmore on 8th April in our season-opening fixture against both Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire in the Under 16s League. Hertfordshire were definitely quicker out of the starting blocks in the morning's foursomes and at lunchtime they were 3-1 up against BB&O and 4-0 against Bedfordshire.
As the day's temperature increased so did BB&O's level of golf and we fought back valiantly against both counties. Stanhope, Elmey, Donaldson and Lewis landed us 3 points from 4 in the front singles against both teams. The back four singles were very close indeed against Hertfordshire and it looked as though we might just turn the morning result on its head. Sadly the 18th hole was kinder to the opposition and we came up just short despite winning the afternoon singles against Hertfordshire 4½-3½. Our afternoon singles versus Bedfordshire were even more conclusive and our 6½-1½ result ensured a good win overall for BB&O.
In conclusion, it was a disappointing loss to Hertfordshire but the same thing happened to us last season. We can turn this around when we play them again. Mentmore looked after us very well and were very welcoming.. The Rosebery course was in fair condition for an early season fixture and the greens proved tricky with many 3-putts and sadly far too many from the BB&O players.
