County U14 Triangular League match vs Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire at Aldenham GC on 23/08/17

The match was played at Aldenham GC near Watford and the club presented a fine course and hosted the match very well.

In the morning foursomes BB&O acquitted itself very well, tied 2-2 with a strong Herts team and 2.5 to 1.5 up against Bedfordshire.  The final two pairs of Harry Thomas & James MacFarlane, and Sammie Colvin & Ben Withall returned maximum points.

After lunch though, Hertfordshire put on a very impressive display and won both singles matches by good margins.  As an indication, BB&O captain Huw Pearson was only a couple of shots over par but was on the wrong end of a 6&5 scoreline.

In the match against Bedfordshire, BB&O ran out 6-2 winners in the singles.  Sammie Colvin was top points scorer on the day, with 3.5 out of a possible 4.

The final scores were:  Herts 8 - 4 BB&O; and Beds 3.5 - 8.5 BB&O.

Simon Mead and Connor Jacob played a very exciting 4BBB match against a combined team of Oscar Cuthberts (Herts) and Luca Green (Beds).  The match was settled on the final 27th green when Simon Mead holed a monster put for BB&O to win one-up.

It was particularly pleasing to see the friendly spirit in which the matches were played.  Hopefully the boys will have competitive friendships with the players in the other teams for years to come.

The result leaves the league title firmly in Hertfordshire's hands.  BB&O can catch them on match points in the final match at Castle Royle, but Hertfordshire has won its matches by large margins which makes its games total almost unassailable.  Let's hope for a "Devon Lock" moment!
