Not the start we were after, as we were well beaten by a good Hertfordshire side at The Berkshire on 10th July. Just 2 wins and a half out of 10 games saw us lose the match 2½-7½

The County 6 man Team were very disappointed to finish one shot behind Surrey at Hankley Common on 8th July. With 9 holes to go Kent looked certain winners 10 clear of BB&O and 8 clear of Surrey. We played great golf on the back nine to overtake Kent but a 12 foot birdie putt on the last from the Surrey team just saw them home.

Congratulations to the 8 - yes 8 - players who qualified at the Regional Venues on 5th July. Carl Corbin (Wokefield Park), Nick Hills (Donnington Grove), Adam Wootton (Oxford City), Kevin Freeman (Stoke Park), Tom Lawson (Ellesborough), Nick Wells (The Lambourne), Gregg Blainey (East Berkshire) and Will Roebuck (Mentmore) all went through to the Local Qualifying starting on Monday 10th July. We wish them well but there are only three spaces available from each of the four venues and with 98 in each field, a 3% chance seems a bit harsh. Congratulations to our 6 BB&O Pros who also made it through: Guy Woodman, David Fisher, Nick Mitchell, Rob Watts, Lee Gauthier and Daniel Woods. 14 BB&O men in Local Qualifying has to be a record!

The Colts took on Hertfordshire, in a must win match, at Henley on 1st July. We trailed after the morning foursomes by 1 point but a magnificent performance in the afternoon singles saw us take 6 games and finally the match 7½-4½. A win against Essex may well see us take the League title, but it could still go down to goal difference to decide the winners. Click on the link below for the result.

At the delightful Woodbridge GC in Suffolk on 27th June the Seniors finished 2nd behind Kent. A one shot difference was all there was between the two sides and there were many tales of 'what might have been' An injury and some bad luck were the main reasons and we will wish for some better fortune at Basingstoke next year.

Playing at Letchworth on 25th June, the Under 16's got off to a good start by taking the foursomes 4½-1½. The afternoon saw the match swing in the favour of the home side and they took the singles 8-4 to just take edge home by 1 point.
|
Due to a misunderstanding, by the opposition, this match was played as a series of singles. A very positive performance enabled us win comfortably 7-1 at The Bedford on 24th June.
|
Current Champion Tom Lawson, from the Home Club, just held off a terrific challenge from Matt Briggs (Stoke Park) and won his third consecutive Title after a 3 hole playoff. Briggs played great golf to catch Lawson after 72 holes, but he could not match the winner's par and two birdies in the playoff. Click on the link below for the full result

A terrific performance in the singles enabled the County to secure a victory against Hertfordshire at Brookmans Park on 11th June. Despite trailing after the foursomes, which we looked like winning, a great team effort saw us only lose 1 game in the afternoon and come home comfortably by 7½-4½.

Eddie Pepperell (Frilford Heath and England International) equalled the course record on the Green course in the afternoon to win the Frilford Heath Gold Medal. With a field of 111 of the region's best amateurs, Eddie Pepperell (still only 15), won by 6 shots from Matt Johnson from Chipping Norton and Will Roebuck of Mentmore who both scored 141. Eddie blitzed the Green course in the afternoon with a series of 6 birdies on the front 9, to go out in 29 and finished on 63 - 6 under par for the course. Will Roebuck's second place finish moves him to the top of the OOM

The Colts had yet another close game at Pinner Hill on 4th June. With 2 draws from our two away fixtures we will need emphatic wins on home territory if we are to have any chance in the League. The foursomes and singles were both shared in this 6-6 draw.

A very close match at Beds & County went down to the wire with both sides looking to open their 2006 campaign with a win. The morning foursomes games were all one sided but ended 2-2. With 3 loses in the first four singles, we looked like losing but an excellent rearguard performance enabled us to halve the match.

An excellent all round performance enabled the County to secure a comfortable win against the Club at East Berkshire on 7th May.
|
An excellent match at Stoke Park saw most of the 1st team taking part - either for the home Club or the County. The County just edged the morning foursomes and with the singles shared, we came home ahead 6½-5½
|
With two fixtures on the same day we were always gointg to be stretched to beat Dorset at Dudsbury on 30th April. After halving the morning foursomes we lost every game in the afternoon and lost the match 2-10

Josh Kensit (Richings Park) had a great win at The Oxfordshire on 12th May. In ticky conditions on a Championship course his score of 148 was a marvellous effort. He took the title by 5 shots from Mathew Jonhson (Chipping Norton) who had the consolation of winning the Under 16 Trophy.

An excellent all round performance enabled the Under 14 Team to cruise to a 9-1 victory over the Boys from Bedfordshire on 11th April.
|
A close match at Caversham Heath on 9th April just saw the visitors home by a couple of points.
|
Another year - same result. The Juniors did them again, this time at Calcot Park on 6th April. One day!
|
A strong home team seemed in total control after the morning foursomes as they went into lunch 3-1 ahead. However, the Colts rallied in the afternoon and took the singles comfortably to take the match by just one point.

An excellent turnout of over 70 attended the Annual Council Meeting on 29th March. It was agreed that Affiliation Fees for 2007 would rise by £1.50 for the County and it was assumed that the EGU fee would probably rise by £0.50 Full details will be sent when the EGU fee is announced. David Milne and Russel Matthews (Hinksey Heights) were the worthy winners of the first 'major' of the year as they took the afternoon Greensomes by 2 points from three pairs tied on 36 points.

With the morning foursomes being cancelled and with only 9 players on both sides, this match lost its normal pre-season significance. The home side cruised through to a comfortable 6-3 win.

Twenty Junior Players enjoyed a week of intensive coaching at La Cala in Spain last week. Brian Roake led the trip and Alasdair Barr headed the coaching sessions. The boys enjoyed the hard work and all felt they had learned a great deal from the experience. The County partially fund the trip but the players pay the majority of the costs.
