The 14s & Under Championship was played at Hadden Hill on 23rd October. In a very close fought contest Joe Richardson (Frilford Heath) just got the better of Charlie Butler (Newbury Racecourse) on countback, with defending Champion - Harry Whittle - one shot further back in 3rd. Harald Gimre (Gerrards Cross) repeated his success of last year by winning the handicap prize.

On a gloriously sunny day at Beaconsfield on 20th October, Stoke Park prevailed in yet another vey close final. Tied at 3-3 the last game came down the 18th with Royal Ascot not quite able to take the match into extra holes. Congratulations to both teams for providing such a good final played in tremendous spirit.

A great Final took place at Ferndown on Tuesday 16th October for the Daily Telegraph Salver. We took on, the current English County Champions, Kent and in a very close fought match just managed a draw against their very strong side. The Trophy was shared and it would have been a shame to split the teams on any sort of countback to determine the winner.

It has just come to light, that due to an oversight, The Springs fielded an ineligible player in the Final. Our thanks to them for immediately awarding the Trophy to Buckingham and offering their apologies to everyone concerned. Once again this great game of ours continues its tradition of true sportsmanship and fair play.

The Springs played Buckingham in the Final at Studley Wood on Saturday 13th October. In a close fought contest, The Springs just managed to win 4-3 Everyone enjoyed the day on a fine course, in great condition and our thanks to Studley Wood for hosting the Final.

Congratulations to David Lane (Goring & Streatley) and John Summers (Frilford Heath). David will represent England in the Home Internationals this week. He has had a great year winning the English Seniors at Enville in June, then topping that off by taking the EGU Seniors Order of Merit. Finally, he was invited to play in the Canadian Seniors and walked off with their trophy after a fine display of controlled golf in 'typically British' weather conditions. John had 2 fine rounds at North Hants, again in very poor weather, last week to take the EGU South East Seniors Championship. He was probably inspired (euphoric) after his original playing partner (yours truly) dropped ourt before the start due to a bad dose of the unmentionables. Well done guys.

We have finished 3rd in the County League, 4th in the Colts League and have won the Seniors League. We go on to play Kent in the Final at Ferndown on 17th October. Clik on the links below to see how all of the teams have finished both North and South of the Thames.

Andrew Crux (Denham) has won the Order of Merit Trophy after a very consistant year. He won the Castle Royle Masters, finished 2nd in both the Burnham Beeches Open and Raymond Oppenheimer Bowl and 3rd Place in the Amateur Championship helped him to a record score in the OOM and well clear of Adam Wootton (Oxford City) in 2nd place. Tyrrell Hatton (Harleyford) won the Junior Order of Merit after winning the Luke Donald Salver at Beaconsfield. He scored points in all the counting events and was 6½ points clear of Sandy Bolton (Kirtlington) in 2nd place. Click on the link below for the final results of both Orders of Merit.

Tom Wilde (Beaconsfield), a regular Colts Team player, took the Autumn Trophy at Reading on 19th September. His score of 143 was good enough to beat Christy Whelehan, on of our most promising Under 16 Team players, into second place. Andrew Crux (Denham) confirmed his dominance of the Order of Merit Trophy with 3rd place and capped it all with a hole in one in the morning.

Matt Briggs (Stoke Park) ran away with the Boddington Trophy at Sand Martins on 7th September. His 8 shot win was his 4th success in this event and he is looking to complete a late season double by taking the Autumn Trophy at Reading on 19th September.

Eddie Pepperell (Drayton Park) winner of the Junior Championship in April, has been selected for the Great Britain & Ireland team to play the Continent of Europe in the Jacques Leglise Trophy at Notts Golf Club on August 31- September 1.

An exciting finish in the Junior Champion Club Finals saw East Berkshire just edge out Beaconsfield at The Downshire on 29th August. Only one shot separated the two Clubs with Burford in third place.

After a great start in the morning foursomes at West Hill on 28th August, we really struggled in the afternoon and just 3 players were able to secure any points. We finally went down 6½-8½ in the match kindly sponsored each year by ''The Mugs''. Next year we hope to get our own back.

Even though both sides were out of contention for the League title the match was still played in a competitive spirit at Stoke Park on 26th August. The foursomes were shared in the morning and we looked like losing out as the first few singles went to the opposition. A fine effort from the last three ensured an honourable draw. Congratulations to Jon Carter (Reading) as he earned his County Colours after five League appearances.

Following the appointment of John Cook as Head Coach, the Junior Management will shortly be announcing an exciting new coaching structure.
In the meantime we are looking to recruit new Junior Managers to assist with the management and supervision of the junior squads. Duties would involve - attendance at coaching days and match days. Tactical decisions involve team selection and motivation as well as supervising match days. Strategic input requires involvement in planning and shaping the general coaching structure and annual coaching plans.
We operate a flexible programme where other members of the team can stand in on duty days so as not to play havoc with social, family or business obligations. We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible and level headed amateur golfers who are able to spend between 5 and 10 days (a mix of midweek and weekends) per year. Ideally you are able to look after a squad throughout a year to get to know the players and put together winning teams. If you are interested then please contact Jan Hubrecht by clicking on the Junior Manager link in the 'Contact Us' section on this page.

Having suffered relegation at Worthing in 2005 it was pleasing to be back in the tournament at John O'Gaunt on 22nd and 23rd August. We performed quite well on the first day with a 50% record but this was only good enough for 5th place. A determined effort on the second day helped us clinch 3rd spot behind Middlesex who were just edged out by Surrey as they successfully defended their title.

A great win at Moor Park on 23rd August against Hertfordshire should ensure a place in the final at Ferndown in October. Having lost to Herts at The Berkshire last year it was most satisfying to turn the tables on them at one of their premier clubs too.

An incredible fightback in the afternoon gave the Colts team a narrow win against Hertfordshire 6½-5½ at Aldwickbury Park on 18th August. We looked well beaten after the morning foursomes only having gained ½ point, but the team rallied in the afternoon to give Jon Carter a thrilling win in his last match as Colts' Manager.

An excellent day at Wellington College on 19th August as the Under 14s won convincingly against Middlesex 9½-5½ and 10-5 against Bedfordshire.
|
Hertfordshire came out top in the newly formed League after two close wins at North Middlesex on 13th June. We lost 7-5 to Hertfordshire but had a good draw 6-6 against Middlesex.
|
A good showing from the Boys gave them a win against Wiltshire 8-2 and a satisfactory draw 5-5 against Hampshire at The Wiltshire GC on 12th August

Adam Wootton (Oxford City) had a comfortable win in the Colts Championship at Magnolia Park on 10th August. His 3 under par total left him 5 clear of Josh Kensit (Richings Park) and Alex Carey (Sand Martins). Sam Whitehead (Woburn) had an excellent net 65 in the afternoon to enable him to take the Handicap Trophy by 4 shots from Kieran Best (East Berkshire).

Middlesex completed a clean sweep of League matches against us this year at Hendon on 7th August. On a very hot day there was nothing hot about our golf in the morning as we went down ½-3½ in the foursomes. Despite a spirited fight back in the afternoon we lost out eventually 5½-6½. This was Middlesex's first win against us since 1995 - coincidently at Hendon - and they could now do us a big favour by beating Hertfordshire, to give us a chance of the League title.

In an amazing 7 hole play-off Harry Whittle (Woburn) finally overcame Adam Carson (Long Ashton) to win this National Under 15 event. The quality of the field was outstanding with the cream of young British golfers competing for this title. Harry is the current Scottish Under 14 Champion whilst Adam has just won the English Under 16 Championship. Two fine golfers and - hopefully - stars of the future.

The boys played their second League match at Hazlemere on 30th July. Once again securing a win against Bedfordshire 7-5 but losing out to Middlesex by just one point 5½-6½

The boys played their second League match at Mid Herts on 27th July. A good win against Bedfordshire 13½-1½ but a disappointing draw with Hertfordshire after taking the morning foursomes convincingly.

The boys played their first League match at Muswell Hill on 23rd July. A good win against Middlesex 10½-4½ was offset with a loss to Hertfordshire 6-9

Craig Buttivant (Gerrards Cross) capped his Club's achievement by winning the Courage Trophy run at the same time as the Champion Club Finals. After torrential rain overnight, it was a marevellous effort from all the Greenstaff to have the course in such great condition. Play was completed despite a severe thunderstorm in the afternoon. A number of players were given the option and withdrew due to the delay. Their cards will not count for handicap adjustments.
