In ideal weather conditions at Harewood Downs on 29th July, 60 boys from 55 clubs throughout the Country battled it out for the Douglas Johns Trophy. After another exciting finish, we went into our 4th playoff in 6 years. This time between Nick Ward (Redbourn) and Jack Singh-Brar (Bramshaw). Nick had posted scores of 71and 66 against Jack's 67 and 70. The playoff over 3 holes saw both players make pars at the at the 10th and 18th but Jack's 3 putt at the 16th proved costly and Nick calmly holed a tricky putt at the last to take the title.

We played the first Under 12's Championship at Beaconsfield on 26th July. Sponsored by Luke Donald, it was fitting that the winner was also a Beaconsfield Member. Elliot Wills had an excellent round of 77 to take the title from Sam Boffin (Hadden Hill). There were some really promising youngsters, with great swings and it will be no surprise to see some of them develop into fine golfers once they grow a bit!

Given our combined handicaps, we had high hopes of finishing in a fight for the title at Stoneham on 10th July. However, we finished a distant 9th from 11 having never really come to grips with the fast running course.

The Seniors enjoyed a good win over Hertfordshire at Gerrards Cross on 5th July. Fielding a strong side we won the first 7 games well and only lost the last 3 by the narrowest of margins. We head the League and a win in our last match will see us through to face Sussex in the Final.

Tyrrell Hatton (Harleyford) became the first BB&O player in a long time to qualify for The Open Championship. Many congratulations on firstly getting through Regional Qualifying at Gog Magog and then leading the field at Ladybank with scores of 67-69. His 6 under par total was a terrific effort and with just 3 places available from each of the Local Qualifying venues; you have to beat an awful lot of quality, experienced and determined Professionals to make it through. Good luck at St Andrews !

Many thanks to the Gerrards Cross Board of Directors and Members for hosting our match against Middlesex, at less than normal notice, on 26th June. We took an early lead in all the foursomes games and despite a couple of wobbles went into lunch 3½-½ up. With such a healthy cushion we could afford the loss of 2 single games in the afternoon and wrapped up the match 9-3.

On a wonderful summer's day at Studley Wood on 23rd June, 48 teams battled it out for the Club Foursomes Scratch & Handicap Championships. Given the fact that the England football match was on at 3pm, you couldn't believe how quickly everyone played! A very solid 36 holes saw Ashley Walton & Ben Paterson (Frilford Heath) take the Scratch Championship with a score of 147 and Peter Clements and Andrew Thomas (Carswell) won the Handicap Championship. Further details to follow.....

The Seniors County Qualifying was held at Littlestone on 14th & 15th June. With a strong breeze on both days, scoring was difficult for everyone, including the Kent locals. We trailed Kent by 4 after day 1 and hoped to finally put the 'bridesmaids' tag to bed (so to speak) once and for all. It was not to be as we didn't perform to our best and once again we were runners up to Kent who took their 6th title in a row.

A strong all round performance from our Seniors enabled them to see off Bedfordshire 8-2 at Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands on 7th June. After winning our opening matches away from home, we hope to repeat our League win of last year with solid performances at Gerrards Cross and The Berkshire.

The Under 16s opened their League campaign at Mid Herts on 4th June. A terrific win against Bedfordshire 11-1 was overshadowed by a narrow loss to Hertfordshire 5½-6½

We fiinshed a disappointing 8th at Ealing on 3rd June. Although, to be fair, with our combined handicaps we were only seeded in the bottom half of the competitng teams. After countback, Hertfordshire took the title from Essex and go on to represent the South East in the EGU final in August.
