A disappointing end to our Daily Telegraph Salver defence as we lost to Hertfordshire at West Herts on 31st August. We needed a big win to overhaul Essex who had already played all their matches and after the foursomes were halved, we still had a chance. Taking 6 points out of 8 in the singles is always a very big task and despite taking 2 points from the first 3, we didn't look like achieving the result as, we were down in two more games. The tail didn't wag at the end and we eventually came second best in the singles too. Hertfordshire took the match 6½-5½ and Essex took the League title, being undefeated.
