In our first South Eastern Group League match at Aldenham, BB&O beat Bedfordshire 7 1/2 to 1/2 and we tied with Hertfordshire with 4 points each . Although stronger than Hertfordshire as on paper, their superior course management on a tight golf course made for a very tight match.
It was difficult conditions at Aldenham with a cold two club wind blowing across many of the holes and intermittent rain showers . After a promising start which saw us up in five matches and level in one match against Herts at the turn , a spirited comeback from the home team resulted in a half.
We were unbeaten against Bedfordshire with 7 wins and a half by Harvey Dobson (Wexham Park).
Ed Davis (Studley Wood), Drew Rolfe (Calcot Park) and Joe Getley (Harewood Downs) all secured well deserved wins against Herts. Connor Jacobs (Goring & Streatley) and Sam Codrington (Woburn) earned halves.
Whilst stand out performances from the likes of Ed Davis were very encouraging, further work on course management (a topic we’ve been working on for some time) should maximise the undoubted talent we have within the squad before our next match.
