McGregor Trophy & Tillman Trophy

Conor Gough (Stoke Park) must have been full of confidence heading into the McGregor Trophy at Kendleston Park after his recent performances at the European Boys Team Championship. Conor continued this form and comfortably made the two round cut after rounds of 72, 71. His third round of 70 helped him climb the leaderboard and gave him hope of adding the trophy to his ever growing collection. Conor played extremely well in his fourth round which included eight birdies. His final birdie and arguably the most important one came at his 18th hole where he drained a 25ft putt across the green. This putt was the last of his 68 shots in the final round and left him with an anxious wait in the clubhouse on a total score of 281 (-7). Conor's lead help up with just one player left out on the golf that could catch him and a bogey at the last by Ben Schmidt from Yorkshire handed Conor the title. Conor was presented with the trophy and was crowned 2018 McGregor Trophy Champion. Taylor Paul (Stoke Park) had a very commendable performance and four solid rounds of golf left him in 15th.

BB&O had strong representation in this years Tillman Trophy and after Olly Huggins (Frilford Heath) narrowly missed out last year it was hoped that someone from BB&O could go one better and seal the title. David Langley (Castle Royle) held a one shot lead going into the final round after rounds of 69, 70 & 71 and with the fine form that he is in it would take an impressive round of golf from somebody to prevent him from winning the title. Unforutnatley for David, Owen Benson did that and his final round of 66 which when added to his other 3 scores and taking into account David's fourth round score of 68 meant that there would be a playoff with both players tied on -10. Sadly David lost the play off but he can take a lot of confidence in his performance and a win is just around the corner. 

Also performing very well was Shane Slatter (Calcot Park) who put himself in the hunt with a third round 67 but he had to settle for 7th place after a final round of 75 dropped him a few places. Also occupying the top 10 was George Gardner (Castle Royle) after his four round total of 288 left him on Level par. Just missing out on the top ten in 12th was Tim Shin (Castle Royle). Rory Browne (Feldon Valley) was the final BB&O player to make the cut and play all four rounds and he finished in a highly respectable 17th. Well done to all the players involved and it is amazing to have so many competing and winning on the National stage.
