Gary is the BB&O Seniors Champion

After a period of wet weather, the sun made an appearance at Maidenhead Golf Club for the Seniors Championship. It was a full field with 72 of the best senior golfers within Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire all competing for their chance to be crowned County Champion. Robin Carter (Mill Ride) started his round with 2 birdies and continued to play steadily, shooting 73 and setting a target for the players later in the field. Martyn Metcalfe (Henley) matched Robin's 73 to sit in third place as Mark Bradley (Henley) managed to sneak into second place with a 72. Gary Mumford (Woburn) took full advantage of his preparation and played his way into contention by shooting level par (70). Defending champion, Chris Harrison (Newbury & Crookham) shot 75 to sit 5 shots back heading into the second round.

The sun continued to shine on day two. Peter Hughes (Frilford Heath) went out early and shot level par (net 64) to lead the way in the net category with a +3 total after 2 rounds. Past champion John Kennedy (Frilford Heath) birdied the last to finish +1 for his second round, but a poor first round left him on +8 total for the event. Richard Lee (Goring & Streatley) moved up the leaderboard after shooting a second round 68 (-2) to finish top 5. Cliff Pearce (Wexham Park) finished on +19 for the two rounds to claim the 70+ trophy. Chris Harrison (Frilford Heath) finished one shot ahead of Andy Elmey (Frilford Heath) to lift the 60-64 trophy. George Wilson (Calcot Park) shot 75 & 76 to win the 65-69 age category.

Stewart Dalgarno (The Wychwood) put himself in contention but unfortunately dropped shots on the last few holes which meant he finished on +6. Martyn Metcalfe (Henley) and Mark Bradley (Henley) closed the gap on Gary Mumford as they all sat on +4 standing on the 18th tee. A par down the last was good enough for Gary to secure the victory. Congratulations to Gary on being crowned the 2024 BB&O Seniors Champion.
